Sparkle Taffy x Quickbooks

Sparkle Taffy and Quickbooks invite you to join us for an evening of readings and performance.

We will celebrate the launch of Dylan Phipps’ publication Lot 31, new postcard poems by Tobi Kassim, and the second edition of Alex Nelson’s Liner Notes. Quickbooks will be available for all attendees for free to take. Dylan, Tobi, and Alex will read their work. In addition, there will be a performance by Austin Larkin, and an arepas food cart by Pat Garcia, Lau Medina, and Claire Hungerford.

Quickbooks
Quickbooks is an independent publishing practice established in New York in 2019 by Luiza Dale. The press periodically issues short pieces of writing by artists. Publications are released fast and for free. Past collaborators include Tobi Kassim, Jenny Nelson, Alex Nelson, Milah Libin, Dylan Phipps, Emma Safir, and Ryan Skrabalak. Dylan Phipps
Dylan Phipps is an artist from Dayton, OH. He holds a BFA in Photography from Columbus College of Art & Design. Constantly vacillating between making images and writing, he is primarily concerned with temporality and often motivated by a desperate struggle to orient himself in the world.

Tobi Kassim
Tobi Kassim was born in Ibadan, Nigeria, and has lived in the United States since 2003. His poems have been in journals including The Volta, The Brooklyn Review, Academy of American Poets’ Poem-a-Day, Zocalo Public Square, and he published Commentary on Weather with Quickbooks in 2022. He currently lives in New Haven, CT.

Alex Nelson
Alex Nelson was raised in a small town in Maine and is currently based in Brooklyn, NY. She uses photography, moving image, and writing to create elliptical associative narratives. She received her MFA in Photography from the Yale School of Art. Her book of writing and images Liner Notes was published by Quickbooks in 2021. two fifty five zero zero, a collaborative artist book with Ian Kline, was published by Orphan Editions in 2023. Alex was a 2022 resident at the Ellis-Beauregard Foundation in Rockland, Maine, and a 2023 recipient of the Brooklyn Darkroom Traveling Residency.

Austin Larkin
Austin Larkin is an artist working with tone, fields, asymmetries and patterns. His performance and practice is informed by research into dimensions of vibrating bodies. Solo violin performances have been in the mode of his recent record, “Violin Liquid Phases,” which centers on the psychoacoustic possibilities of the violin-harmonic tuning, rhythmic phasing, spectral bowing; as well as emotional dimensions and landscapes of energy-catharsis, ekstasis.

Claire Hungerford
Claire Hungerford is a designer and writer in New Haven, CT. She works with artists, writers and institutions alongside initiating and self-publishing her own projects.
